Licensing…

To get my LCPC-conditional license I must first interview and acquire a position with a clinical counselors name to attach to my application; which I submit to Maine to await approval; once approved I may sit for the NCE exam (next date is in July); and once I pass (8 weeks to hear back) I may then, and only then, work in the clinical position for which I applied for and had an original interview in May.
There is no alternative to take the Exam earlier; Maine requires the state to approve you to sit for an exam; and this is only for a CONDITIONAL license. Out of grad school I will not be legally allowed to work in a counseling position for approximately 3.5 months, if I’m lucky. SERIOUSLY?
